A unique beautyberry that lives up to its name. The foliage turns bright yellow in the fall, creating a striking contrast to the colorful berries. Blooms on new wood.

Callicarpa are heat tolerant and very showy. Purple Pearls also offers a distinctive upright habit, which saves space in the landscape compared to the wide horizontal habit of other beautyberry. It makes an outstanding addition to fall floral arrangements and indoor decorations, too.

Perfect accent for the landscape and good in containers. Fall color into winter.

Maintenance: Easy

Best in well-drained soil. Plant in full sun for best color and highest quantity of flowers and berries. Purple Pearls®beautyberry shouldn't require much pruning but can be cut back in spring if desired. In zone 5 and 6, the plant may die back to the ground in cold winters but will resprout and grow, flower, and fruit well that same year.
No pruning needed but it is okay to remove 3-5 older stems to the ground every year in early spring to avoid crowding if warranted. Can be pruned hard to desired shape in early spring for complete renovation. Blooms on new wood.
